mirror - bracket screws

I've been fixing up the body work on an 88 I picked up in December and one of the mirrors has a little bit of play between the mirror bucket and the bracket that it attaches to (not the bracket to the fairing). I can see that there is two screws holding the mirror to the bracket but the screws heads are in-behind the glass mirror - is there a way to take the glass mechanism out so that I can get in there and tighten those two screws ?
thanks,
Jaime

The mirror glass is asnap fit into a plastic housing. If you can pop the mirror out of the housing, you can then get at the 2 screws. I've got one in bits, don't know how the glass came to be popped out. Suggest you heat the plastic in water and then peel the plastic edge away from around the mirror.

Ahh - that's how it goes together.
Unfortunately on this unit, I noticed that the plastic edging was missing - so the glass most likely had been replaced and probably glued to the backing plate. Likely not coming off without being destroyed - I guess I can try to heat up the glasswith hot air or in water (not sure which would be better?)slowly to see if the adhesive will release...
Have to see if that black molding/retainer is available and add it to my parts needed list.
Thanks,

Alright! Got to working on this tonight andboiling the mirrors worked out great. I was able to get the mirror off on the good one without any damage. On the unit that hadbeen replaced, goodnews - the black backing plate was not damaged... the replacement mirror had been siliconed right ontop of the original mirror still sitting in the backing plate.
Took it all apart and this willmake it easy to paint the buckets without the guts. I've made a pattern of the good mirror to take to a local shop to get a replacement piece (very thin glass).
Thanks gearloose!
