Low battery voltage
in my excitement I didn’t check but I will next time. Would be a shame if it were over charging the battery
My bike was turning over slowly and it used to just spin and start, so I figure the battery is 3 years old and maybe a new one is in order, but I wanted to check the old one anyways. So off came the side pieces and the seat and the battery was 12.2, a tad low, so I started it and checked the voltage , 14.4, good right ? then my elbow touched the frame near the voltage regulator, wowzers was it hot like sweet snapping hot. I started to read and the Honda is a SCR system which do generate lots of heat. I read more and found that newer units use a Mosfet regulator which runs a lot cooler, so I have ordered a Mosfet regulator, which comes with a plug adapter and should fit. Once I get it and install I will do an evaluation and tell you
3000+ revs it’s over 14v
when settling down at idle, it was jumping around 12-13+v. Even up to 14 on occasion.
it settled lower in low 12v and then high 11v.
another knackered regulator?

it would indeed. I noticed the indicators would Get brighter when I revved. When I first got the rectifier, I was so excited that it worked, I didn’t check the idle revs. Just checked when it was warming up.
I think to be fair my lights do brighten up when coming off tickover suggesting that there is only just enough power at idle for the bike to function, but not charge the battery. Not sure what the spec says but might not be an issue esp if you are getting the 14 or so volts when the bike is being ridden.

That’s encouraging. I’ll have to stay aware and take reading regularly to see if things get worse or stay the same. I drove from London to wales and just arrived. No an issue throughout the entire journey.
I bought a new regulator battery, heatsink and thermal paste. The battery was 12.3 the new 12.9 The regulator was blazing hot so I replaced it and added a heatsink. I used thermal paste and applied dialectic grease to the pins and contacts .the total for everything came out to $105
New $15
Old part
Thermal paste
At 2000 rpm
At 4000 rpm
New parts
After 5 minutes it was still not hot
Dialectic grease
