K&N filter
I have 88 600 the pervious owner put a k&n filter on but did not jet carbs. Bike will not idle below 2000 for more than minute. I am thinking its because of the filter. Taking it off it runs good.
Next any way to stop the heat on the tank.

Montana man got it in one !
Clean the filter and put it back.
I'd say your idle jets are clogged too
but did not jet carbs
Bike will run fine with standard jets if all you have is a K&N - If it has non-standard pipes you may have to mess with it a bit. Send a PM to Sprock - he knows all about that

Filter are clean. It does have a supertrapp exhaust. Not sure if that makes much difference yes the filter is clean. I also noticed tonight that when the fan kicks on the idle increases. I think it not getting good air flow

+1 Shadow.
K&N in my '91 with standard jets and runs so very smooth right through the range.
Just clean the filter thoroughly and re-oil lightly Do not over oil the filter

A number of years ago I put a heat shield under my tank. I was lucky to have access to the material fire fighters wear but any reflective heat proof material will work. I put a layer from the front of the tank right through to the rear of the battery box. Also I ran a small piece down the fairing to stop the heat blowing onto your legs. Made the bike run cooler too. Several others who did the same thing had similar results.
Enter your location as jets depend on many things including altitude above sea level (if your under it doesn't matter).
With K&N and aftermarket exhaust I'm pretty sure you need to increase your jets.

Not that you're not welcome Randy, but did anyone else notice? Though I suppose the advice so far is good for all models.
