Default Idling issues

So I got my project bike together. Before I put the air box on it, it would idle just fine but backfire, and the chock would work, but it wouldn't rev over 7k rpm. Now since I put the air box on, the chock won't work at all, I have to give it gas to start it. If I let off the gas, it will die, so I have to hold it open above 2k rpm till it gets warm, then it will try and stay idling, but it will backfire constantly under 1500rpm and occasionally die. Over 1500rpm it runs perfect. Any suggestions?

Possible you crossed the plug wires? I did the same on mine and it always back fired.

Make sure the carbs are seated 100% they are tricky..

Boil the rubbers to soften them up..

I took your advice, tried every wire variation possible, and it just made it worse. I took the carbs out and reset them, didn't fix the issues. So I took the air box off again, and the choke works with the air box off, and the throttle response is about 4 times better with the air box off.

Tough to say without seeing it and hearing it....If you are sure you got the carbs clean - and all the air connections are set up properly, maybe you need to check the settings on the pilot screws? They normally work well when all are set to two and one half turns out. If the choke works when the air box is off, have you verified that the cable is moving the pistons on the carbs when you move the choke lever? Is it getting pinched when you push the airbox on?

So I turned the pilot screws out 2 and a half, put the air box on, started her up. Had the same issues, but then when I turned the throttle the lights went dim, let go of the throttle they went back to normal. Dim, normal, dim, normal, bike dies. Then I smell burning and the throttle open cable is melting right by where it connects at the throttle. The whole cable is hot, take the air box off and the cable is frayed at the bottom. It was seated correctly. Any suggestions again would be extremely helpful.

So the only thing I can think of about the throttle cable is that some how a B+ connection in my switch was using my throttle cable as a ground. I just know how that would have happened.
