Hung up float?
 

Hi all,
Just spent time cleaning and jetting the carbs along with new needles. After I tested the carbs for leaks on my bench I had to change the float bowl gaskets and the oring to all the fuel lines. Tested again, through use of gravity and all was good to go.
Put it all together and fired the bike up and it was fine for about 30 seconds then started pouring a full stream of gas out of carbs 1&2 overflow. I tapped the carbs hoping it was the float while it was running but to no avail.
As soon has I tipped the bike to level it shut off. I had to choke it to fire it and was adjusting the idle to 1000 rpm when it started.
I am in the process of buying a carb sync, how do I carb sync this? I read the write up on the 1000, but the 600 does not have the same vacuum ports.

i believe you adjust cbetween carb 3 and 4 first then between 3 and 2, then between 2 and 1.

Thanks for the info, but where do you hook up the vacuum lines for the guages/sync?

There are vacuum ports on the head, just below where the carbs enter the head.

About your overflow problem:

You need to take the 1 and 2 floats out of the assembly. Get a little bowl and fill it with gasoline. Toss each float in that bowl of gas and see if it . . . . . floats.

Sometimes floats can get a little crack in them and they don't float anymore, which keeps them at the bottom of the float bowl, and gas keeps flowing in the carb because the needle won't rise to shut the gas off.

About the vacuum ports:

There's a little 5mm cheeze-head phillips screw right on the HEAD, not the carbs. It's right past where the rubber manifolds meet the head. Unscrew that screw and insert the fittings that come with your sync kit into those holes.

To sync, you need to have the tank and (I think, can't remember) the airbox off. There's 3 phillips screws, one in between each of the 4 carbs, that you can adjust to get all 4 even with each other.

I assume that your little CAPITAL word was directed at me, and I never once said that the vaccum connections were in the carbs, simply explaining which order to sync them in, which was in fact his question.

Wasn't even thinking about you, sorry. Your post and mine are talking about different things. I put HEAD in capitals because the first time I went to sync my carbs I stared at the carb bodies for about half an hour trying to figure out where to put the vacuum fittings that came with the kit. :D
