Hello from a newbie 1996cbr 600f not starting
 

Hello I have a 1996cbr600r and I am having trouble the bike will turn over fine but with choke it gives an almighty backfire and also without the choke but it still won't fire up I have checked pump and filter and both are getting fuel but not 100% convinced pump is getting right power so ordered a new pump relay can anyone please help as this is my first road bike and am still learning

Hey there and welcome to the forum. From the sounds of your symptoms, I would start with a thorough cleaning of your carbs. This is especially true if the bike has sat for a while. The carbs are fantastic but are incredibly picky about being clean.
The good news is there are gobs of threads on here about cleaning them and quite a few active folks who have experience doing just that. If you choose to go that route there are those of us who are happy to lend advice. It's a process that can be intimidating but it's not bad once you get your head wrapped around all the parts you have in front of you.

@Sterling31 Hello and welcome to the forum. As Hamlin6 mentioned it's most likely a carburetor related issue. As for the Fuel Cut Relay, I doubt that is the issue. You can actually bypass the fuel pump and run directly from the fuel tank to the carburetors. If you bike runs, then it might be fuel pump related. If it doesn't, then it's not. It's not as simple as putting a meter on the fuel pump leads and checking the voltage.

How comfortable are you with working on motorized things? Whether it's cars, motorcycles, lawn mowers or whatever. Gas engines work the same, they just might have more complex components that you have to become familiar with.
