headlight starter button issue
Hi all,
First time rider/poster with a 88 Hurricane I got a bit ago. So far its been great but I'm having a bit of problem with it - the headlight wont stay on. However, if i push in the starter button just slighly, it comes on and works fine. Let go of the button and headlight goes off. Has anyone experienced this or have any thoughts on it? I was going to take the grip apart and check for a loose wire/connection at the switch but if there is something else or easier fix to be had, I'm all for it. Thanks |
RE: headlight starter button issue
It is probably either a corroded wire in the handle bar control housing, or it is a crossed wire that is shorting the headlight connection when you press the start button. Does your headlight go out when you start your bike?

I think does but need to check when I get home at lunch today.

RE: headlight starter button issue
I had this same issue with my headlight. Turned out the starter switch was sticky/corroded. Cleaned it up, threw some dielectric grease on it and it's been fine since.

RE: headlight starter button issue
checked at lunch - does turn off when starter works.
Thanks DaWood, I'll try that tonight/tomorrow when I can. Hope it works for me. |
RE: headlight starter button issue
couldnt get the throttle controls off the grip but was able to work some grease down around the starter button connections and used some wd40 on the switch itself. Got the light to come on and stay on, all is good now.
Thanks for the help |
RE: headlight starter button issue
I have an 87 600 Hurricane and had exact same problem. Starter button was sticking and had to be moved by thumb to disengage. I also noticed headlight issue during this situation. Jim
