Fuel relay
Do i really need the fuel relay or can i replace it with a toggle switch? If not, does anyone have one that i can buy? Getting it brand new is kind of expensive for how small it is.

You might have better luck trying nearby scrap yards if you have any. But you might luck out and someone will have a spare they want to sell.

Yes, you need the relay. If you put power to the fuel pump all the time the bike will flood. It gets it's signal from the cdi.

When i looked at the wiring diagram, it seemed as though i could do that because there are three wires coming from the relay, one goes to the pump, one goes to the starter switch for starting, and the last one goes to the tachometer as if there is a variable resistor inside of it that puts the right amount of fuel into the carbs, even though its running all of the time.

ok, recently found out that my fuel pump was seized up and i got it to work again but the next time i tried to run it, it was seized again. It isnt the stock pump, its a mr gasket 42s micro fuel pump, it came with the bike when i got it from some guy on craigslist. im not sure how it will work, because i havent gotten the engine running yet. any thoughts?

My recommendation is to bypass the fuel pump to start (gravity feed the fuel from the tank to the carbs, and get it running that way. The only reason these bikes have a fuel pump is because the lower portion of the tank sits lower than the carb inlet. If you have the fuel tank above the carbs it will gravity feed and at least let you get it started.
Once you have it running, hook the fuel pump up again. Its possible like you said that they run on a vairable resistor depending on the engine rpms. |
also having trouble finding the clutch lifter online, any suggestions?
|
Do you think that gravity feeding the carbs will work in the upper rpms as well?
