Fuel pump wont run
Recently bought a 89 cbr 600 the fuel pump does not run. I go through the diag in the manual that I have or should I say wait diag there is but when it tells you to pull the relay and jump the black and blue wire as soon as I turn the key on the fuse blows? The fuel pump will run if I hook 12v directly to it so I don't think it is faulty but when I check continuity both wire have continuity with the metal case of the pump not sure that is right? It also says to check continuity from the black to the yellow and there is none but the manual doesn't say what to do from there? Any help would be great thanks

According to the diagram, the black wire comes from the 10 amp fuse through the contacts in the fuel cutoff relay out on the black/blue to the pump. So by bypassing those two wires you should put power directly to the pump for testing. If the fuse is blowing there must be a problem inside the pump...the black cap on the pump is removable. You may have a loose connection internally in the pump.

I pulled the black cover off of the pump and the connections look good but both the black/blue and the green wire have continuity with the pump
if I take a small screwdriver and seperate the contacts I loose continuity on the blue and black wire is this normal I cant tell where the black and blue wire goes inside the pump?

I had the same problem with mine, it was running fine when i bought it but after about 6 months it broke.
I was gonna get a new one but it was apparently £160 so i didn't bother. I got a second hand one from a scrappie for £45 and it worked off the battery but blew fuses in the bike. I also tried another fuel pump from a yamaha fj1200, same happened again.
i assume the pump in the bike already wasn't original because there was a mitsubishi logo on it, so the previous owner had the same problem.
my solution, because of money is the bike is gravity fed now, no pump.
it works fine, just don't let it go on to the reserve I try and refuel every 50-60miles

someone rewired mine before i bought it. It looks like it hooks onto the black end of the solenoid. theres a wire going up to the fuse box now as well. it works pretty well and right when you turn the key it starts pumpin!! Not sure why someone did this.. but it works!
Did you test continuity across the pump? Thats the first thing id do.. Then you know if its your electric or the pump. Second, get some wire, look at a wiring diagram, and reroute wires to where they go.
