Default Fork valve

Hi,
I'm rebuilding a Canadian 1989 CBR600F and I have a question about the left front fork.
The brake caliper and fork are different to what is mentioned in the shop manual that I downloaded.
It looks like there is a valve at the bottom and the caliper attaches to it.
I'm kinda assuming that it changes the fork damping characteristics under heavy braking but I'm wondering if this is original or an upgrade over stock. The different caliper is attached using a Torx bolt at the top which is unusual for this bike.
A couple of pictures are attached. The first one is one I found elsewhere on the web for reference, but it is the same.

Is this original and if so, why does the shop manual not mention it? I would also appreciate any comment on what it is for.

Cheers,
Ralph

Ok, I managed to figure it out eventually once I knew what to search for.
So it's an anti-dive valve. I still wonder why it is not mentioned in the shop manual that I have.

What manual do you have? It's 100% in the Honda manual.

Yeah, I think I must have had a service manual for a later model. I found the right one via the sticky for this forum so it's all good, thanks.
