Fork air gap
 

Does anyone know the air gap (top of fork tube measured downwards to oil level) of the stock forks? Can't find the info through factory service manual. My race tech springs are of a larger wire diameter, so the stock volume is increased slightly. I pulled out approx 30ml from each leg (vs stock volume) so the oil is at the level of the springs with caps and preloads out. Any info is appreciated! Thanks.

I have the same Race Tech springs installed in mine. If I remember right I think that Race Tech might have included their recommended air gap and other info in the instructions that came with my springs. I'll go check in the garage when I get home & see if I can find any useful info in the box.

How much of an improvement in handling & feel did the gold valves make? I've been thinking about putting some in my forks for awhile.. I'd imagine it would make a considerable difference with a much heavier fork spring.

Tahoe, I ran 1500kms on new springs before the emulators. 10weight Motul synthetic. Was quite happy with the setup. 15mm shorter preload spacers than stock. The golds in I ran more (slower) rebound damping and pretty much stock compression. Nice nice nice! For the most part however, just the spring changeout will suffice for most people. When you're pushing that little bit harder the golds are noticeable. I had all the settings written down...probably with the race tech instructions I cannot find lol!

Well I guess I was wrong, I found my instructions and there isn't any mention of recommended air gap in there. Just information on how to set the preload & sag. It must be in the manual somewhere, but of course I don't have that in front of me right now either :D
