how good of condition is it in? if good, ebay it and get another one. my v&h ss2-r has a nice growl to it, but not loud.

EDIT: I love the way my SS2-R sounds and looks so much, I am incorporating a Yoshimura racing header into my system.

the other thing you can do if you felt like it, is to drill out the rivets holding the end cap onto the exhaust can body and pack the muffler with exhaust packing. when done, rivet back the end back on and your done. over time the packing will be burnt away but it should kill some noise for awhile.

the above and tbr have repack kits. other manufacturers have as well but these 2 just came mind.
i use exhaust packing inmyexhaust canto deaden the sound. i don't care for mine being load enough to attract unwanted attention (mainly the popo), i just want mine to flow.

Some more information along with what Michigan said, Ive had friend(s) take the rivits out and then remove all the remaining packing and replace it with steal scrubbers. This takes alot longer to deteriorate and is the same premise for firearm silencers. Its seems to work pretty well. However they had some problems re riviting it so a spot weld is holding the cap on... doesnt look bad at all tho.
