Default Down, but not for the count

Aight gents, I'm officially new, and have been dragged to the forums by a mechanic bud of mine. (I've been quite impressed btw, so I thought I'd take part).

Besides being new to the forums, I'm a new rider, with my 1987 CBR 600F Hurricane being my first baby. Shes got 35k miles on her. Just finished up the CHP course, got my insurance lined up and three weeks later some jackass pulls a left from the right turn lane and I'm down before I know what happened.

Fortunately, I'm ok, only a few scrapes - miraculously, I didn't even put a scratch on my helmet cause I never hit my head!

Now I've got a bike that needs fixin' and I'm at it with gusto. My mechanic friend generously donated some parts, but does not have the time to contribute, which works out because I've always had an itch to learn how to work on bikes - and this will be yet another first for me. Street fighter here I come!

My big question atm, the left fork has been pushed up higher than the right fork... how the crap do I get them back to zero? I have a rear-tire bike stand and a car jack. Any ideas?

I'll be posting some pics of the project later on today.

Thanks
B

just under the bottom of the top of the fork is a line with a clip. put your rear stand up and put another jack under the exhaust and jack up. be sure that the bike is secure.now loosen the bolts on the bottom fork clamp and top clamp and the fork tube should slide up and down easily unless the fork tube is bent. slide the fork tube until you get to the line just below the top of the fork. you may have to loosen the axle nut and axle clamps at the bottom of the fork tube to get the fork tube to slide more easily.

Thanks M, I'll be givin that a try tonight when I get home, along with the pics of that.

I have a few pics I'll be able to post up in an hour or three.

Question, I randomly have a set of sticky tires and rims from a 1993 F2 - any idea if I can just swap them out and throw 'em on my bike?

no, they won't work becuase:

1. rotor offset is different,

2. wider rim hub will not fit up between forks properly,

3. calipers will not line up with rotors,

4. f2 rotors are slightly larger in diameter than f1 units,

5. wheel spacers are different length,

6. speedo won't fit back on,

7. back rim uses larger diameter axle bolt,

8. back rim uses different sprocket carrier,

9. back rim uses different size wheel spacer,

10. f2 was complete redesign from 87-90 models.

Yeah, lets try that again....

Here's when I just got her:

Here's a pic of the parts my friend generously donated:

not anymore. however, i am a welder and fabricator on the side now. i've been working on functional upgrades/mods for the hurricane/f1 and so that has helped me figure out what will fit-up and what won't without major surgery. And so when members ask about doing suspension or hardpart upgrades/mods, i usually can answer those questions pretty well.

Absolutely my friend! I really appreciate the advice! I'm just about to go wrench on those forks, I'll let you know how it goes.

SWEEEEEET! HAHA!

So, I put on some bar end mirrors and messed around with those forks - that was a close one, it was a complete balancing act but they're back to zero!

I realized that besides the footbrake and the left footpeg all she needed was the headlight and front turn signals to be street legal. So I took some zip ties, a jerry-rigged headlight (with turn signals) and attatched the whole thing to the front of her. (The light shines too far up - I plan on adjusting that tomorrow) Then I strapped on my helmet and took her round the block! LOVE IT!

Thanks so much for the help with the forks, lookin at it myself I woulda been wrenchin on the wrong bolts. haha

Here's some pics to see how she's doin:

Tomorrow I'm gonna be gettin my hands on new footpegs and another footbrake. Should only take a few minutes to attach those.

Then I plan to swing by home depot, pick up some sand paper and black spray paint and work on the replacement ?tire fairing? (not sure what to call the plastic that covers the front tire) and the front end fairing that the headlight and turn signals mount to. I = excited

I have one more question: I can't stand the back turn signals... they look like mini moose antlers or something - I was surfing ebay for "honda cbr integrated tail light" but found nothing for the older CBRs... any suggestions?
