Yep It's a 6 speed, not quite sure why it won't let u shift into 6th though......something is not right obviously
I used to own a '87 hurricane 600 so I KNOW it was a 6 speed. Don't think U got ripped though.
bike looks great anyway

Only one way to know for sure, tear her open and have a look. Dunno about everyone else, but 6th gear seems invaluable for long highway cruises.

i suppose it wouldn't hurt not to have it if you're just tooling around town. even at 45 mph, you will be 3rd or 4th gear. if you don't feel that the bike is having any problems going along or other shifting, then you should be okay. but at the first sign of another shifting problem, you should stop riding to prevent anytranny damage.

well when shifting, like downshifting, should it "clunk" when it goes into the other gear? I assume there's nothing really wrong, maybe i'll swing by a shop one day and ask.

Yeah. when dropping from 2nd to first it should clunk, and of course, neutral to first it will do the same. When you try and shift in 5th does it click and nothing, or does it feel like theres resistance and it wont click or anything?

well, it clicks into 5th just like any other gear. Feel's fine shifting to 5th. Then after that it's just nothing. I figured it was a 5 speed, like the guy told me. he said the clutch would have been different or something if it was for a 6 speed, and that he was certain it was a 5 speed. yet on the sprocket cover, it obviously says 1-n-2-3-4-5-6 or whatever. and obviously it's a 6 speed according to everyone / they only made 6 speeds.

it just feels like 5th is the end, like there's nothing past it.
