choke cable install

Any tips on making the install go smoothly? Going to be doing the work with a buddy of mine, (he has the garage space) even though I hate being in his garage due to the fact there is a 25th Anniversary VFR with hard bags installed sitting in there tempting me to go buy one.

RE: choke cable install

it's a pretty straight forward R and R.

1. remove bodypanels
2. remove seat, 2 bolts
3. remove tank, 2 bolts,no need to disconnect the plumbing, just set the tank on the subframe
4. remove airbox and air filter, several screws, don't drop any
5. remove left control pod, 2 screws
6. unhook the end of the cable
7. unhook carb end of cable
8. put everything back in reverse order.

while you are at it, take some brake cleaner and spray down the springs around the throttle cable attachment area on the carbs. also, check out the multi-pin molex connectors around that area of the frame for any shorts, corrosion, etc. while the gas tank is off. actually, if it is something you normally can't see with the tank and airbox on, then you should go check it.

RE: choke cable install

im not sure if it makes a difference or not but i installed mine and noticed that when i turned the bars to the right it would actually choke the bike out. the adjustment on the handlebars is stripped out and after like a month the cable snapped. so i just took a piece of wire and tied it to the choke lever on the carbs and tied it to the frame on the left side of the bike. theres enough room to stick your hand in the access panel without removing it and pulling the wire to choke it lmao. so i would recommend installing it with the bars to the right but like i said im not sure i didnt try it after it snapped
