The voltage regulator/rectifier is a known electrical problem on the Hurricane. The mosfet is an aftermarket replacement.

 

the mosfet is a newer design voltage regulator to replace the old shunt types which generate lots of heat, and are failure prone components. not an aftermarket, as its OEM for newer bikes, so more of a refit than aftermarket. google mosfet voltage regulators.

 

oh, that makes sense. Would it be possible to just move the regulator to a spot where it gets more airflow to reduce the chances of it burning up?

 

I think so, however you'd need extenders for your wiring. I have an F4i regulator I'm swapping over, I've got a place in mind to install it, just gotta DO it. I'm tempted to install it into the airbox though, for the best airflow and most ideal cooling. I mean the airbox has air always moving, and therefore being drawn over the R/R, allowing very good cooling. I'm not 100% sure where exactly I want it.

 

Well since im working with a sand rail, its not limited as much where i can put the regulator, so hopefully ill be able to find a good spot for it

 

you're right on that. it sure does make the possibilities a LOT greater. I would be likely to engineer a fan of some variety to push air over it though myself.
