So I'm selling my old '89 CBR600F. Parked it back in 2014 and let the registration pass.Last time i started it up it was atleast early 2017. I owed atleast $600 to the DMV in 2016 so i'm sure it has doubled since then. that's why i'm offering it as a parts bike and not fixing it back up to running condition.
some of the problems that I know of:
Punctured rear tire, battery dead, a throttle cable missing, fuel tank has had fuel sitting in it far to long and the fuel has varnished, dented tank, Rear shock reservoir looks to be leaking.
some positives are that it has 49 state carbs and cams, Fox TC rear shock, race tech front springs, the majority of the fairings.
Bike odo says 28k, but its more like 35k, I've had to replace the cluster at one point

California is such a scam that way, stacking up fees cause you parked a vehicle. Maybe someone outside the state will buy it where they don't have to pay all that extra and it can run again. Good luck.

 

How does that California thing work? Damn...parked my F2 for 10 years and when I was ready, cost me like $25 to get new plates. WTF is up with Cali?

 

I think the back registration fees go away after 7 years of not being registered.

Everything government related sucks in California.

 

Not sure about time limits or expiration,but when I was in the military down there the engine went out on one of my cars. Not knowing any better, I just didn't re-register it. Two years later when I finally had the money and time to get it going again they told me that I should have filed paperwork saying that I was taking it off the road, and then they charged me two years of back registration, I guess on the assumption that I had actually been driving it unregistered for two years. Total scam. I was planning on leaving anyway, so just hauled it back to Washington and registered it here once I was home.

 

Yeah it was one of those "i'll fix it next week" situations.So I didn't put it on non-op then life piles on, and before i know it I have a bike with a bunch of fees.

Registration is about $100 a year but after the first year they hit you with a bunch of additional taxes beyond just the late fee. one of which was a "chp tax" which was about $150 a year

 

Damn. Sorry to hear that guys. Squished in the gears of the machine. Cali does a lot of things I admire, but certainly this is not one of them. Hits hardest of those who can't afford it.

 

yes Cali sucks when it comes to the state taking your money. I feel for ya. Been there, but I took my stuff out of state with me. GLWS.
Make sure after sale that the fees don't keep accruing for you....like if a delinquent payment on a credit card. Cali is hurting for $$....I wouldn't put them past it.

 

I might be interested in your 49 state carbs. You mentioned
fuel sat in the tank quite a while . Don't suppose you drained float bowls before parking her ?
