CBR600 FL engine noises
Firstly sorry guys if these questions have been answered throughout the forum already.
Ok firstly when idling the clutch ( i presume) is abit clattery and noisy when not engaged.. I believe this is a common fault but its driving me nuts so could anyone tell me what the noise is off?... Sounds like a bearing rattle but as i know nothing about these machines i am just guessing.. If it is a bearing are these easy to change?
Secondly.. The engine has a whirring sound which gets higher pitched as the revs increase.. Hard to explain the exact sound in words but its abit like a whine off a gearbox kinda noise.. any ideas lads?
Thirdly... it sounds like the timing chain is rattling so is that easy to sort out?
Finally.. ( thank god i hear you say ) theres bits of fairng missing mainly the upper inner panels ( on the backs of the mirrors etc) and the lower inner
panels ( they go around the clocks etc).. anyone know where i can get these from assuming they can be gotten of course?..
thanks for your patience lads

i bet most of the noise you hear is the timing chain. mine goes away above 4000 rpm
for the clutch, when you say not engaged, you mean with the lever pulled in?
could be the basket is worn, or warped discs, or broken shock springs on the clutch hub.
timing chain requires complete disassembly of motor to replace. for the clutch you can remove the side cover, and look for worn or loose parts, paying close attention to the basket drive tangs.
ebay, craigslist, or getting lucky is about the only way to get plastics, and they are usualy not cheap.

Ah sorry when i meant not engaged i meant with the lever not pulled in... or basically engine running with me not touching the clutch lever... when i pull the clutch lever the clattery noise goes away...
Had a feeling the plastics would be awkward to find.. wonder why its mainly those bits that are hard to find.... i couldnt do the timing chain as beyond my capabilities so i will leave it...

I finally got around to pulling the CCT out of the bike. There was a small amount of dirt and grime in there. Once I got it cleaned out, I re-installed it and i'm still getting a pretty decent whirring sound which is pretty noticeable.
Any suggestions besides taking the mirrors off and putting a new bike underneath em?
