Default cbr paint job- FINISHED with pics

I'm almost done paintin my gfriends ninja 250. next is my 89 CBR600F. the wheels are white right now(stock) and still look ok, so I might leave them and go with a black & white scheme. was thinkin of using the Honda logo, somethin like this:

my other idea is to go all black, then do the clear coat in 2 dif sheens, so most of it is gloss black and parts of it are matte/semi. maybe the same design with the Honda logo. is that too modern of a look with this classic bike?

I'd like to take the paint off the wheels and polish them up. but it would be a pain in the ***. and I've got a bigger project waiting.

what do you think ?

I went through the same wheel color decisions when picking the colors for my bike and decided to make life easier by leaving them the stock color as well.

As for your design, I like it! It should be easy to do, it looks good, and makes the bike look a bit more modern (but not so much to look out of place).

I was just going to paint the wing stripes, would be simple, being straight lines. and get a decal for the Honda on the tank. I was also thinkin it would be cool if I could find a decal like the original tank decal. it has CBR with a small Honda underneath. would have to find one in white, though as the original is blue.

I may just paint the whole thing black and get a decal kit like the one 2nd from the bottom on this page.

http://www.honda-decals.com/default....CTIONSword=ww1

would be super easy and look really nice and classic. minus the ultima part.

the set at the bottom of this page would be cool, too. I could just take the 2 off of the 600f2 part.

they have sets for the Hurricane, also. but technically my bike is not a cane. not sure if that would make it look dated or add to it's classic appeal. I kinda dig the decals on it now. which are similar.

Default w/ decals

thanks for the input so far you guys! cbr6pak- yeah, I looked it up. very cool!

I kinda photoshopped on some decals from that page to see how it would look. if I use decals I think the wing should be dark gray, another shade of black, or just the dif sheen thing. so it doesn't get too busy. love the racing look on the track, but it's a bit much for the street. and I don't have any sponsors yet!

You using rattlecans or a spray gun?

I'm bout to repaint mine (again) and was thinking of putting the Honda wing on as well. Problem is it'd be too 'bland'. So I was thinking of doing a tribal design through the wing. If not that, then doing the wing in something like a pearlescent or candy color.

Right now I've mostly settled on blue as the base color. Thinking candy apple green as the contrast color for the wing if I can't find an inexpensive pearlescent.

I'm using HVLP spray guns w/ a compressor. paint is PPG waterborne for base coat, urethane 2 part for the clear. I really like the waterborne paint. I restore and paint houses by trade and we have switched over to water base for everything, now. the auto industry is doing the same. it makes clean up SOOOOO much easier. and lays down really nice.

you can get candy colors and everything else in the waterborne, but no matter what you use candy's and whatnot are a lot more work and more $. there is an extra step involved. sometimes it's hard to get the effect even and just right all over. just be prepared to practice a bit first and maybe have to do it over if it doesn't look right.

I was just about to spray out my gf's ninja when the fairing upper fell to the floor and cracked! more prep.

weird thing is the tab I had reattached took the main brunt of the fall and is still perfect! cracks happened in places that had not been repaired. the plastic fix stuff i am using is awesome! it's 3M automix 5895A&B plastic repair kit. very strong and very flexible. you can bend it in half once dry and it doesn't crackle or split. with the waterborne paint and urethane clear coat it makes for a very flexible coating. old lacquer style paint jobs will crackle when flexed. another nice thing about water base.

so, I probably won't get around to the CBR til January. after I get back from Seattle for xmas.

I'm super pissed at myself right now.

Well if you're using a HVLP gun, do the entire bike in black with the wing in a color shift. That's something that hasn't been seen too much.
