All the help I can get
I just bought an 87 Hurricane 600. I am having to restore the bike. I am looking for all the help that you can suggest. I am having to do both engine and body work. I have an album created so if you want to look there as to what all suggetions you can give. Any and all help is greatly appreciated, especially since I am a female rider and am not 100% sure of what all work I have ahead of myself.
Most common issues
CCT is bad and the valve train is very very noisy.
The carbs need a good cleaning and resynching, bike runs bad and likes to die. Surges at speed.
Tank fuel switch is clogged. Bike runs like crap.
Fuel filter is clogged. Bike runs like crap.
Plugs and plug wires are toast. Bike runs like crap.
Voltage regulator is going out. Bike runs with super dim lights and cuts out above 5krpm. When turning on the highbeams or brake lights it tries to die and the lights dim even worse.
Front fork seals are toast, rebuild with 15w oil and new seals. Add 1-6psi of air to top fill points after rebuild. Crank rear up to max. (well for a ride closer in stiffness to the newer bikes)
Frame is cracking by upper rear motor mount bolt usually on left side, usually preceded by rust. Reweld it.
All these issues will pull up in a normal search, if you can't find it just ask. Lots of us have extra small parts(not body plastics, good luck there!) and can help you out.
Good luck, The cane is one of the funnest, fastest bikes you can get for the price. There are some aftermarket parts available still 21 years later.(just not body panels)
