87' Cane Project

Got the front end back together. This is the 2nd time i rebuilt the forks, and the right one STILL leaks. New oil and dust seals. Tube looks in good shape. I don't know. Anyway, took it out for a ride, every time i get on this thing it just amazes me how quick it is for a 24 year old bike. It ran nice and that "streetracer" clutch grabs hard. All the plastics are off so i just strapped a truck light on there so i can zip around (legally)

I love the originality of your bike! Its great! Just got me an 88 cane! Very fun though someobe spliced the fuel pump (possibly for security reason). And my atarter is jammed. My pipes are rusting out.. Think you can give me derust/paint tips to revive? And yes definently fix the plastic. Sand, jbweld, sand, paint. Does wonders. If you really want it good take em to a body shop. They are great with plastic panels but sometimes expensive! Wish you could keep the paint though. I know a guy with a full original 87 cane if you want anything original. Lol thanks!

Thanks for the pointers! what about high heat paint for those pipes? can i pick that up at lowes or something? and have you ever heard of the starter clutch being stuck engaged? Im pretty sure my solenoid is out. my starter motor is good, but when it engages the gear it cant turn it. its like its jamed. I hooked the starter motor straight up to jumpers and it spun. But with the starter motor out of the gear, when I hit the start button it wont turn. thats why I think my solenoid is out. but then i put the starter into the starter gear and then I hook it up to the jumpers and it sounds like its trying to turn but it wont turn the engine at all. not even a crank. then when I try to roll it in gear to start it that way, it wont roll in gear. like the starter is hanging onto the crankshaft. any pointers? this is on my 88 cane btw
