all other gears return however first gear sticks at bottom I have looked at the springs and there all good and also work in every gear however first gear is sticking ? Could it be the gear shifter , although nothing is standing out ! Any help?

Try rotating shifter arm one spline clockwise so it’s 90-degrees to rod (will have to shorten rod afterwards).

Could also be some sort of spring issue?

Hey thanks for you info , so I just took it for a ride and every gear downshifting you have to tap down then put your foot unemder the shifter click up slightly removing the slack then foot back on top shift down etc etc , going up no prob going down , nightmare , if a car pulls out the down shift is a real issue, so when I put the gear shifter on it was inline with the footpedals so super high so I then lowered it to correct position ( although) I thought it was ? Ok I will try this

So

I screenshotted from a video I took when I first got the bike and this was the position I placed it back there and still the same I think I need to drain her out and get back inside the linkage and look however when I was checking the springs and they looked fine

I place the spring back over the pin because it popped out

Spring’s arm looks bent. Both should be parallel and close together to contact that little tab on back side of plate coming off shift-spindle.

Hey Bill! BC36 reporting back from the husband. He says the easiest thing to try first is lubing the clutch cable sleeve, because it might be binding, as well as making sure the cable is tensioned correctly and not over-stretched. He did some Google-fu to see what else the issue might be, and the tension spring and/or tension disc might be worn out.

I noticed someone upthread suggested the clutch arm is bent. In that case, the spindle might be impinged from rotating freely, which is keeping the spring and disc from doing their job.

Hope that helps :-)
