1989 F1 Noise- Possible CCT?

Hey all,

My F1 has some slight noise when cold. It presents itself when the engine is revved, sounds like it's around 2-3k rpm's. It's pretty quiet, but it's definitely there. It's like a slight rattling, and it goes away once the bike has reached operating temp.

So, all signs point to CCT right (being that it goes away when warm...?) Is there a manual CCT available for the F1? How tough is it to install?

Also, there's a slight noise when running. Sounds kind of like a noisy fan, halfway between the CCT noise, and normal engine noise. I notice it mostly when I'm slowing down (as there's less noise from the engine revving, and the exhaust). If I pull the clutch in, it disappears immediately. I'm trying to figure out if it's the clutch being pulled in that makes it go away, or if the clutch lowers the RPM's, and that makes it go away.

I'm not sure if the two are related, or what the deal is. The noise isn't a rattle from anything lose, it's not brakes or suspension. This is my first street bike, so I'm just not sure what's normal, and what's abnormal.

Any help is appreciated!

Search is your friend. Yes there is a manual cct. Honda 1986 90 CBR600F 1991 94 CBR600F2 Ape HT600 Manual Cam Chain Tensioner | eBay
Easy to install.

Fix that then re-evaluate the other sound.

Thanks CorruptFile.

I've done a lot of searching, and can't seem to figure out the installation of this. For a manual tensioner, do I just unbolt the tensioner, pull it out, and put the new one in? Or do I have to open up the head, pull cams, etc? I'm really hoping it's just plug and play...?

Unbolt the tensioner, pull it out, and put the new one in. That is the way to go unless you need to change the camchane to.

14550-MN4-023 ADJUSTER, CAM CHAIN $38.62

Found this for $38, just wanted to double check that this is the right one. Plug and play, I assume.

That is the one that honda makes, a genuine part. To point out it is not a manual tensioner and it will need replacement after some time.

Pretty much. You tighted the manual up finger tip type. Start the bike and adjust to you don't hear the rattle anymore, than back off a bit. A little rattle is good - too tight will wear your chain and guides.

Not to hijack, but is there an easy way to tell if the can chain tensioner (1987) is the original one 14550-MN4-4003 or the factory upgrade 14550-MN4-023. My bike make a little noise and I was hoping it was already upgraded.

Thanks,

Joe
