1988 CBR600f Compression Question
Hello
I am looking at buying this bike. current owner said it will not run and he is not sure why. unit has a title which i really don't care about. I really only want the motor out of this bike. is there anything major that goes wrong with these motors? i assume they would be pretty simple being an older Honda motor (correct me if wrong please). i am planning to go look at the bike tomorrow Sunday 09-16-2018 so any help tonight and early tomorrow will be wonderful. What should i look for? I was going to check compression and i seen in another post the min should be 125psi and max around 150psi. but the guys said WOT i can not seem to figure out what this mean. But I am not the best with motorcycle stuff or really auto stuff either. Im more a heavy diesel kind of guy https://cbrforum.com/forum/images/icons/icon10.gif. Or if someone has a service manual that would be great i tried to get the one off of this site but does not seem to want to open for me, i can only seem to find the manual for 1999-2000 and im sure thats why different being over 10 years newer. Again any help would be wonderful. Thanks in advance Joey |
WOT means wide open throttle. That means you have to have the carbs completely open to allow air into the cylinders.
125 psi is the lowest I would go on this motor. 150 is perfectly sealed up. If it is over 150 that is a good indicator of raised compression. It could be different pistons or a milled head. If you are sub 120, drop a few drops of engine oil down each cylinder. If it comes back up it can either be worn rings or just dried out from not running for a while. |

Thank you guys.
I just could not get figure out WOT. im kicking my self i should have gotten that ha. Do these motors have a compression release on them to start? i know i had an old ealy 80's 3 wheeler that i had to rotate this little are on the block to release the compression for the pull start. not saying i will have to do anything for the release on these but does that effect the numbers at all? I have a compression gauge so i can check them one at a time. So tell me if i have any issues im my plan here. i will go look at it and with my compression tool and socket to remove all plugs. take all 4 plugs out then crank the bike with WOT and see where the needle lands? doing the same for 1-4 holes. |
