here’s a short video
the clutch side is open so you can see that it’s just limp , I’m going to open up the left side and hopefully it’s just the spring has broke and I can replace , however the brown bracket which is moving up and down is that ment to be moving freely ?

Yes, the spring (23) should be over the retaining pin (22).

So the pin should be in the middle?

Yes, to allow the spring to return the shaft in either direction.

So I wandered into the honda shop and asked for some fork oil for the CBR600F. "What year?" 1987. "Okay." The printer wizzed and a couple of relevant pages popped out on changing fork oil. Very kind of you, I said. He's still head down, then up like a meercat and with a quizzical look: "It says auto transmission fluid." I nodded. He looked at the manager. Manager said, Yes 5W, the tin on the shelf there.

I took it. Have ridden about 60 miles on it.

But its a bit thin isn't it? Damping is soft, not sure I'm getting much anti-dive action. (Not sure I ever did.) So I did a consult with Chat GPT. The conclusion was that 10W might be a closer match to try initially.

Now my thought is, go to the car parts store and buy the cheapest ATF I can find, () which is likely to be the same performance but better quality than what was available in 1987. Your thoughts?

You say ATF, I automatically think EP80 or EP90.

You say 5W, I automatically think Light Machine Oil.

Times change :-)
