Tire life

I am looking for a bike to commute on and tour on the weekends. I really like my 954 but it isn't cutting it on a daily ride. I was wondering what tires you guys run and what kind of life you get? What mpg do you get also? Are some years better than others? I don't really know if I am going to get one or go with an interceptor. I want to hear from you. I don't know any one with a blackbird and I have no knowledge of them. Thanks

The 'bird is a great touring bike and can be a decent commuter bike depending on the length of your commute. She's big and heavy and can be a handful around town. Dunlop's seem to be the popular tire, but that's personal preference and lifespan depends on how you ride and how much you ride. I'm on my 3rd season with the same set but riding season is not year round here and I ride conservatively most of the time. I have a 98 which is carbed and have seen from 36 to 43 mpg depending on how spirited I ride. None are better than others, 97/98 are carbed and the rest are FI. Get one, you wont regret it. There are 'bird dedicated sites to check out as well.

I like mine - 97 carb version.

I get around 40mpg average out of her.

Currently using BT021 tyres and get around 5K from a rear - not too much more from the front.

I know guys who have taken a rear down to canvas in 1500 miles and others who have seen over 7500 miles on a rear tyre - depends on the tyres used and your riding style.

I have put VFR800vtec bars on and can easily do 500 miles in a day on it when touring.

Hats off to you bro, if you are seeing red on the tach while shifting, there is no need of wondering what the life of a tire is.
