paint or polish

Based on the crap UK & Ireland weather - I would powder coat them if you are stripping them down.
It will last much longer. Polished looks great but won't last long. Paint is cheaper than powder coating but again won't last as long. |
when ya put it like that, it's paint then.
only 12k on it so i'm not touching springs or oil for a long time yet. http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b3...pseb1f225b.jpg and i'd a few wee chips on the front of the guard were annoying me. so i'm fixing that too. http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b3...psc3745a54.jpg think i'll paint then both NH146-M silver. and tons of lacquer . :icon_denk: . . . . . . . . . . . .. . .:icon_beerchug: . . . . . |
Can't wait to see how they turn out.

a few more wee marks to wet and dry out, mask up the stickers,
quick coat in silver, scotchbrite it, 3 or 4 good coats, dry. then a super fine rub and tack rag it, then a few coats of lacquer. mich as it should be good when its done, i need to invent a mudguard bra for it. (like a bonet bra) fekin water based paints and no oven, and the odd hour. i was going to do it with an premix aerosol, but i found a wee gravity fed spraygun i got with a compressor years ago, so i'm going to dab a hand at it. ps. i cant roller paint a bathroom. :icon_confused: so be prepared for runs. and it's being painted in the back of a farm barn out at my Da's place . http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b3...psf0814d82.jpg |
Why dont you remove the stickers - do a complete spray - then get more stickers if you want them on.
I took my CBS stickers off the front guard some years back and have never missed them |
i was advised to take my time and mask it up, as they are lacquered in anyway,,
meanwhile, back in the barn it's not great, water based, paint and lacquer wet on wet, and just a bit of heat from a heat gun between coats. got to give it 48 hrs good drying now. then a mate with a wee hand buff says he'll take a few wee marks out of it for me. # http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b3...ps2c17e793.jpg http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b3...psd0fb16fd.jpg |
Looks really good considering you said you can't paint :) but I would seriously consider having the forks powder coated whilst they are off the bike as paint will just chip in no time mate
|
i can't paint, honest,
i get a decorator in caus the wife goes awol when i get a brush out. i'v tidied stuff up with aerosol's before, but things like centre stands and handlebars on the lad's 50 or 125. knocked the guard over this morning flicking the airline round, and had to completely wipe it down with thinners to start again. bloomin ragin, then my da opened the door and blew up dust. |
see,, full of dirt.
powder coating ain't my favorite thing, too much heat involved. # like i said, guard needs compound and polished so i;ll get it together sunday afternoon, and then about wednesday i'll get it finished and waxed. stripping, less than an hour. 3-4 in prep, an hour in paint and will be another hour to build up. £20 paint, and about £15 for lacquer, primer, sundries. http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b3...psefcc61a8.jpg http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b3...ps91815ece.jpg http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b3...ps29c02dbc.jpg http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b3...ps0777929d.jpg |
