Advice please
 

Hi Guys,
I currently ride a cbr1000f but am looking at a Blackbird. The one I am looking at is a 1998 but it has the following problem
"it is the master or slave cylinder rubbers that have worn and are leaking air in, therefore need replacing."

Are these easy/diy to replace or is it a major strip down/ pain to do?

i'd stick a fresher used master cylinder on it,
just one of those bits i'd not touch myself.

Are you talking brake or clutch master cylinder?

Great choice on bikes. I have a CBR1000F and a CBR1100XX.

I'm not an expert on mechanical problems. The CBR1100XX has a linked braking system. It sounds like he is talking about the braking system since there are a couple of cylinders in the braking system. As far as fixing this kind of a problem I'd have no clue myself from that description of the problem. I'm not sure if this site has any of the shop manuals on line. I do know that the site does.

I believe it is the secondary master cylinder that he is talking about but not positive. Page 39 of the shop manual has a diagram of it. It is located on the front fork tubes so it should be easy to get at if that is the problem. I haven't heard of this type of problem before on an XX and I have had one for 5 years and am pretty active on a couple of different forums. I am a moderator on the CBRXX.Com forum.

In the event that you didn't know in 1999 the CBR1100XX went to Fuel Injection. I personally prefer the fuel injection model myself. Some folks prefer the carbs. Some prefer the fuel injection.

If its just the brakes that need doing then go for it.

You can get rebuild kits for the master cylinders and calipers.

The brake bleeding process is a little tricky but not impossible.

As a rough guide

Caliper repair kits are around £27 each
Master cylinder repair kits are around £33 each
Slave cylinder repair kits are around £35

Worst case if you need to do it all should be less than £170
