'05 1000RR is my first bike. My only previous experience was a weekend on 250s at the MSF Basic RiderCourse. I had every intention of buying the 600RR after comparing it to the ZX-6R, R6, and GSXR-600&750. I asked to try the 1k just so I could purchase the 600 without any lingering doubts. I fully intended to be terrified by the bike, but in fact the exact opposite was true. I found the extra low-end torque and overall lower operating revs made me feel far more comfortable than on the 600 (perhaps the electronic steering damper played a role as well, but I don't have the experience to say). Beyond that I loved the deeper sound, the titanium paint scheme unique to the '05 1k, the hydraulic clutch, and the adjustable clutch and brake levers.

Roughly 2000 miles into it, and absolutely no regrets whatsoever!

One thing is for sure; the bike far, far exceeds my limits as a rider. If I was much younger than 28, was significantly lighter than 200lbs, or was more of a thrill seeker I'd probably consider myself having made a mistake. I've been driving a 400+bhp car within my limits and incident free for over 5 years now. Without that experience I'm not sure I'd be so strictly riding comfortably within my limits, which otherwise would again have me considering the 1k a big mistake. I've read various comments that you learn faster and/or "better" if your limits exceed the bike's, but I'm just in this for personal, amateur fun. I'm loving every careful minute of growing into the 1k, and I enjoy that the end is nowhere in sight.

Well I'm in my 40's and this is the fisrt bike I have ever owned, I've rode a friends suzuki (gixxer) and anothers honda 900 fireblade and I liked the honda better, the only thing I hate is this south fla weather raining alot lately, I've had the bike about 3 months now and only have about 640 miles on it :-( I also had the 600 mile check and it cost me $164 [X(] but i'm enjoying it (1000rr Black) 06

My first bike was also a EX 500. Couldn't afford insurance on a ninja 600 when I was 18. Damn tickets. I haven't been on a street bike for 16 years. Just bought a 06' 1000 a couple of weeks ago.
I love it. Feels like I haven't missed a beat with the time off between bikes, other than a **** load of power. In the time I took off from street bikes I raced dirt bikes, that might of helped. I suggest
that you go do a track day. It helps soo much. It will give you a peek of what the bike has. Plus a day at the track will give you more riding experience than a year on the streets. Providing that you utilize the instructors that are at the track.

Here is a pic of the track day last weekend I took.
Warning Track days are addicting.

Hey Demoman

Those were some good pics. You looked "fast" just sitting there in the first pic. I will look into some local tracks to ride on. I will first need to get experience riding and handling the bike before I even go anywhere of a long distance to get to a track. Again, great pictures.

i suggest to all the new riders to try full throttle starts in 1st and then through 2nd to get the feel of the 1k. Good luck!

yeah ok i have over 3,000 miles on the bike and i havn't opened it up through 2nd. i hate riding 600's. i also recently rode a gxr 1000an and an r1 and don't like either of them compared to the rr. it seems effortless to ride the rr compared to the other bikes more refined and stuff.
