Default What temp is my fan supposed to come on at normally???

I notice that whenever my bike is up at normal operating temp (180 F +/- 10 degrees) my fan comes on when i'm at a stop light for more then 5 seconds with the clutch in... I thought it only was supposed to come on when its in the 200's. I do kno that when i'm crusing around in the city and the engine gets hotter (around 215f) the fan stays on constant when riding untill the temps get below idk 210? or something.

is this normal fan operation?

sorry if this is beating a dead horse.

Thanks, Joe

yes normal, once you get on the highway again. The fan will shut down. Fan will come on when you on the street the most since you are stop and go and waiting for the light and the temp will go up because there isn't any wind come threw to cool it off. At least your fans are working! You have 2 fans did you know?

i have an 06 cbr 1000rr and my fan only comes on around 218 to 220. never that low. My bike seems to run really cool compared to my friends bikes. never had a fan pop on under 200. very strange unless this is a 2008 or 2009 model with something changed. Maybe try running ice wetter or water wetter as your coolant. Just my 2 cents anyway.

The thermistor should close the fan relay when the bike hits 221 degrees, which turns the fan on. If your thermistor is damaged, it could report incorrect temps. I believe on your bike the thermistor and relay are in the same unit. Look up what the resistance-temp range is for yours, and test it with a multimeter.

My 07 does not have two fans. Unless one is invisible. I only see one behind the radiator.

I wish my fan came on that low! Mine gets up to 217 and turns on, then it runs like **** for a few until it cools down. I'm thinking about a bypass where I can turn it on when I'm in the city. I've got straight water wetter in it and it don't help much at all. But I don't believe it's normal for yours to be turning on that low, either that or mine is screwing up.

BTW, I only have 1 fan as well on my 07.
