WHAT IS THE BEST AIR FILTER , AND DO THEY MAKE ANY DIFFERENCE ?
I am considering fitting some new air filters and was wondering if anyone had any opinions on good or bad ones ? or will any actually be any better than the stock ones ?
i know of k+n and bmc , has anyone heard of dna filters or does anyone have them fitted ?
what other filters are available also ?

Those are the 3 most popular.
I have heard of a few others, but their names escape me right now.
You can get HRC ones if you want (you don't!) as they are basically JUST the mesh off the stock filters.
You can see right through them, and they have no elemets.
No one can agree or prove any gains/loses with the K&N, but with them actually LOOSING HP from stock on 929's and 954's, they left a bad tast in some peoples mouth.
Most popular? BMC "Race" Filters. Gains? I have seen up to 2.0hp on the dyno, and they'll save you 1.00lbs high up on the bike.
FYI there are 2 versions of the BMC's. "Race" and "Street". The "Race" has 2 layers of elements (filter paper) and the street's have 4 layers. Yes, the race will let more dirt into your motor then the streets, and no doubt they'll both let in more then the stock ones.
It's been said by people who know that the stock filters flow more air then the stock engine needs.
Potentially your best bet, and quite a popular mod (free) is to cut the screen off your stock filters. This will improve airflow over stock, and like I said, it's FREE.
So if you feel it's worth spending the money to *maybe* gain 2hp, save 1lbs and let more dirt in your motor, then go for it.
P.S. I have only seen a few dynos with the DNA's and they seem to make good HP too...

RE: WHAT IS THE BEST AIR FILTER , AND DO THEY MAKE ANY DIFFERENCE ?
Anyone that spends ~$100 on air filters is only going to tell you good things.
Truth is, most riders couldn't tell you what (if anything) they did...
could you tell +/- 1-2hp? The weather makes far more difference then that.
Having said that, I do have the BMC's and no complaints, but as long as they stop dirt,
how could you complain about an air filter? I know it's hard, but your best bet is OEM.
FYI: On these bikes, almost without exception, no matter what you do it's going to
cost you at least $100/hp gained. So if someone says you can gain 5hp for 100 bucks,
they are probably full of BS.

RE: WHAT IS THE BEST AIR FILTER , AND DO THEY MAKE ANY DIFFERENCE ?
i agree that people will buy anything if they think it gives them more hp , i personally think the bike has enough hp for anyone and the only reason i would change the filters is if i thought they would be better suited to a power commander and help the bike run a little smoother .......
maybe i should put an advert on ebay , gain and extra 10 mph to your bike for £50 ............. once people pay i can tell them to loose 50 pounds in weight and hey presto , speed gains of upto 10mph ......
