weird clicking noise

I'm hearing a weird clicking noise after the engine is up to about 180 degrees. It goes away after about 195 degrees. I can only hear it at idle, and for about a minute after i shut the engine off. I have a 2006 cbr1000rr with only 1700 miles on it. Sounds like the exhaust to me, but man that sound in annoying. I live in South Flordia so it is always hot. The bike has made this soundsince i got it new. I live 200 miles away from the closest Honda dealership,so im just screwed on that. So far i have tried re-torqueing every bolt that is connected with the exhaust and also cleaned the exhaust with oven cleaner. That seemed to help a little, but its still there. Any one heard of this problem or have any more solutions?

Like most noises, it is very hard to diagnose on a forum. You will mostly get speculation, but I understand anything can help. Are you using supreme gas? Sometimes that ticking noise you hear can be eliminated by using a higher octane gasoline. Hope this helps and good luck.

also see if it's your chain, go to a parking lot with no one there and take off your helmet, turn your head just a bit to the left (like listening to your read tire) - then kind-of weave a bit around when riding (your trying to see what happens when it turns).. it could be your chain, a bike is never going to be flawless - but it might be your chain.

mine noise wasnt about temp, it was the speed - so if i was going aroudn 25mph-35mph you would hear it, but once your went into 2nd or went over 45mph you could barely hear it or just maybe it stopped..

I hope you figure what it is, i was just giving you another solution it could be (it's really hard to figure out what's wrong when you cant hear or see the bike in person)

I always use supreme octane to avoid spark knocking and the chain sounds smooth as can be. Most of the time I hear it is when I am stopped.

I have a 2004 CBR1000RR that has the same ticking noise. I hear it when I rev up even not in gear. So not the chain.

But my 2006 Kawasaki Concours is the noisiest bike ever made not my Honda. They have a saying that tappy valves are happy valves.

The Concours is so loud it sounds like a diesel by the way.

The Honda has a ticking noise not a tapping noise. So I am at a loss also. But I just put my 600 miles on it so when I bring it in on Tuesday I will ask them if they all do tha and what is it. No way am I paying for a valve job with this few miles on the bike. Maybe the oil chan will help quiet the engine some? I run only super unleaded of different brands and it does it with all of them.

Sounds to me like the muffler paint is wearing in. You said you hear it when stopped, so I would think it is normal breaking in sounds.
When you buy a new car you hear the muffler crackling or ticking when it is new. If that's what it is it will go away after all the paintand other stuff finishes burning off.
Does not sound like you need to worry too much.

i would agree that no bike is perfect. My 04 1krr has a sound of a ratteling bearing in 4th gear. 4th gear only. and no one has advised me to pull the trany out, and i have no idea how. i just live with it. no metal flakes in oil to indicate bearing wear.
