Any general advice on things to look for when I am shopping for a 1000RR? Are there any common weaknesses I should know about the drivetrain or electrical? Advice would be appreciated.

Are you looking at used or new?

 

I have seen some good deals on leftover 2006 and 2007 models. So I guess they would be "new."

04/05s are notorious for blowing stators. ask if the stator has been replaced on it. not a big deal if it has because honda has extended the warranty on the 04s to cover the stator

also the 04 had a speedo recall. some of them were reading like 25% too low. check on that as well

the 06/07 were pretty much spot on

 

Yeah... After doing some reading today, I am in love. Now to find one that is new (nearly new), black, and in my price range.

seems manny have been stranded at least once. me 16200 miles stranded stator fried. Honda will replace these parts for FREE though if it hapens to you.
