Does anyone know what material the black Shogun swingarm spools are made of? I'm looking for some spools but I think I want plastic vs aluminum.

You mean,

"Most definitely get plastic vs aluminum" or,

"Most definitely they are made of plastic"

The chance of the frame slider popping your cases from an impact is low if you just lowside and slide. If you highside that bad boy at over 50mph then waterpump will be the last thing on your mind.
as luck would have it
this Friday afternoon i went riding around the hills bordering the pacific
i was making a long sweeping right around @ 65-70 mph when this rice'r i was following slammed his brakes giving me approx 25-30 feet of reaction time
i braked hard, dropped a couple of gears to compensate but i was too slow and TOTALLY overshot my turning line

end result ?
i ended up on this dry knoll (full of dry twigs and mulch) on my left
my left shoulder hurts a little bit - maybe i pulled somethin or maybe its just the colder weather

my bike ended up on its left side although i was making a right
inertia, hard braking and GOOD LUCK must have made us land in the mulch on our left rather than on the hard asphalt on our right

anyway i got up - powercycled the key and rode to the nearest parking lot to inspect my bike while i plucked twigs outta me for the better part of 15 minutes & smoked a ciggie to calm my nerves

the bar-ends ? untouched
the swing arm ends ? tiny, almost unnoticeable scratches
front flush-mount indicators are fine but rear LEDs is missing - no big deal

the left bottom plastic is scratched up - but no cracks or dents
the left center plastic has cracked owing to mounting bolt
NOTE: the no-cut slider held up just fine although the offset has bent by about 15-20 degrees

estimate to restore her back to stock ?
500 for OEM bottom and center plastics ... a tad overpriced i think
70-90 for replacement sliders and rear LED indicators

estimate to restore my confidence ?
on my way home, a kid leaving school waved Hi as i passed and a middle-aged latina gushed next to me @ the traffic light
i guess me and my bike will be ok after all ! ;-)

Glad you're o.k. You're in CA so talk to the Limpmeister about new plastics. He will get you the best deal. When my front fender blew up and I had to replace both lower forks and fender he saved me around $700 over the dealer.

And see, told ya your cases would be fine But seriously, main thing is you get to ride another day.

i bought a set of replacement frame sliders for $55 earlier today
lower than the $69 i paid last time around

hopefully your swing arm sliders should cost no more than $10-15

still scouting for the plastics though ... ought to seal the deal before this weekend w/any luck
on a side note i'm dumping the rear LEDs soon and getting one of those LED integrated tail-lights instead

I really dig my Clear Alternatives integrated taillight. Don't know if it's DOT legal though.
