Serious Questions Here

Im new to this forum and this is my second post. Im buying new this year. Im tossed between the 600 and the 1000. What are the benefits to buying the 100RR over the 600RR. Is it worth spending the extra cash. Im not a stunt rider, i just ride fast, but is there really anyplace to ride to actually enjoy the benefits of owning a 1000 over the 600 other than at the track. Im also way into the show of the bike. What does everyone think. Thanks for the opinions.
P.S. - if this isnt the place for a question like this, just let me know, all you people out there who feel the need to ream out the newbies, do me a favor and save that. HaHa.

RE: Serious Questions Here

Well, I stepped up from a gsxr 750. I personally have never ridden a 600rr, I can only tell you the difference between the 1krr and the 750. For me the 1krr is more user friendly because of the low end power. You don't have to twist on the throttle too hard to get it to move and you can cruise in 6th to save on a little gas. If you plan on riding 2up, the 1krr has the power to easily do that. I tote my gf around a lot and we're not little people. I'm 6'1" 220lbs and she's 6'0" 135lbs and I do have to say the gixxer struggled a little. Also, with any liter bike there are serious power issues. If you get a little too happy with the throttle the loose steering will remind you to let out so you can turn again. I think it's well worth the extra cash, others may not. It's all in what you're comfortable with. For me, my next bike is going to be a VFR. I rode my friends and fell in love with it. I'll never get rid of the cbr though.

Go for which ever one you are most comfortable with. Sit on each one for a long period of time, test the weight and get a test ride if you can. I got a CBR1000 as my first bike and my buddy (who is much more experienced than me) got a CBR600 as his first bike. We are both happy with our choice. I like the 1000 because it is very comfortable (to me), has way too much power...meaning I don't have to twist my wrist much to get it up to speed, it is fairly easy to ride, and has HESD. Just my opinion. you will get 100s of them saying either one, but again,...you are the one faced with the decision/responsibility. Take Care.

RE: Serious Questions Here

It's all about personal prefference.

My first sport bike is the CBR 1000RR and I love it!! It handles better then anything I've ridden before (Harleys). The power is addicting and the bike feels rock solid at any speed (at least up to 95, I'm still in the break in period). It has plenty of low end power even with a passenger.

Sit on them, ride them if you can, and buy the one that feels right.

Something tells me I should leave this well beaten up subject alone, but I am hard headed. 1st and foremost you should get the bike you want. It really doesn't matter which bike you choose, both are more than you'll ever need on the street, or the track; granted you may want more, but need never. Bikes are very close in size and weight; the 600 is more flickable, and seems quicker, but the 1krr is just plain fast, and handles like a dream. Main dif is how big you are, and how you intend to ride. If you are less then 200 lbs and don't mind riding at high rpms, then the 600 is your scoot, if you are a heavier guy, and/or intend to use the bike for the commute, you'll appreciate the higher torque and wider powerband of the 1krr. Bottom line is they are both serious bikes, seriously fun, seriously track worthy, and seriously dangerous. Which ever you choose, just take sometime to get used to your new bike and always respect the power. In most cases a new 600rr or 1krr is the fastest bike the new owner has ever had, and until you've ridden one you really don't know how much faster they are. Good Luck and let us know your choice.

and just a side note, from 9k to redline the 1krr is a fricking rocket, be warned and hang on if its your choice.

Really succinct!!
+1 on that...I own a 1KRR and my brother owns a 600, so I know both bikes. This is perfect characterization.

RE: Serious Questions Here

I was in your same position a few weeks ago, and also new to this forum. I ended up getting the '06 CBR1krr silver/black. My first bike was a '90 FZR 600 actually still is, I still have it. Anyhow, there is a big difference from 600-1000. I was first under the impression that this might be too much bike for me. but it looks so sweet. I could have saved a few bucks getting a 600, or an '05 or even another used bike. Looking back, I believe that I would have seriously regretted getting anything else. I am no pro racer or stunter and I have limited riding experience so the riding I do is only a fraction of what this bike is capeable of doing. I actually feel safer on this bike than my 600. For example, wind blast from passing semi's has me all over the road hangin on for my life. The cbr1k is so stable and solid I feel like I can ride straight through a tornado. Not sure yet if its bike mass, steering dampner, or it must be that folks at Honda know how to make a solid bike. Also from what I understand, the Honda folks made the '06 easier to ride. I did my own research befor buying and found Honda proposed the question: "Was the new 2006 Honda CBR1000RR redesigned to be the fastest bike for the ultimate rider or as a fast bike for the widest range of riders, including those with a little less experience, yet curious to know what it’s like to go fast? Honda claims to have done both." It basicaly comes down to "What ever floats your boat". This definently floats mine.

RE: Serious Questions Here

I owned an 04 GSXR 600 before my 05 1000RR and I have found that there are pro's and con's of each bike. Any 1000 will require less effort around town and is a bit more comfortable as a result of less vibration. The powerband of the CBR 1000 is more predictable with less "hit" in the upper ranges. The Honda has better quality and is a real looker. However, I still enjoyed the 600 more and slightly regret moving up to the 1000 class for the following reasons:

- the 1000 can be intimidating because it requires more throttle control due to the massive power. I was faster on my 600 in anything other than a straight line or a track (predictable turns)
- the 1000 is definitely heavier and less flickable. 600's are almost telepathic and in my opinion, handle like a razor
- the 600 is like the little kid with a big fight in him. They have better horsepower per cc and scream at the limit.
- I can't seem to hammer on the 1000 like I used to on the 600. It is just too damn fast for the streets I ride so a redline in anything but first (you are vertical at that point) is a rarer occurence.

The CBR 1000 is an incredible bike but I still have a fondness for the 600's.
