RE: Repsol v. RC-51
The problem with the RC51 is that it only runs on two cylinders!!
Seriously though, I have ridden the RC and I dont get it. It seems nice but is a little heavy and riding a twin is ALOT different than a inline four, at least it has a decent aftermarket support. So if you need anything for a RC there are options...I guess it comes down to your preference really

I too had my eye on an RC51 for quite some time and also looked at the SV1000...but when it comes down to it i've never ridin a v-twin before and they're just not the kind of power you'd think...its up to the rider like they say...but know what your getting yourself into...both bikes are amazing in their own respects

I love the RC-51. Awesome bike. I ended up with the 1000RR only because it really fit me. The RC felt odd where the CBR felt like a comfy glove.
The guys above already gave you the best advice -- get what you like. With the choice between an RC-51 and a CBR1000RR you really can't go wrong.

I too am in love with the sound of the V-twin. I also love the torque. But look at it this way. This is the last year for the RC, there will be no more advances or anything with the bike. The CBR on the other hand, it's only the beginning. There is soooo much technology in the new CBR. I've ridden both and the CBR is much more comfortable. The RC feels like I'm riding on the tank and it's feels pudgy. It's a awesome bike, but for the long hual, I chose the CBR. Good luck!!!
