Rear Suspension Preload adjustment
 
I wanted to do some adjustments on my suspensions, and found the right pages in the service manual for my 2004 1krr. They have the instructions for front wheel preload, compression, and rebound adjustments. They have instructions for rear wheel compression and rebound adjustment; but there are no instructions for REAR WHEEL PRELOAD adjustment. What's up? I riding friend showed me where the preload adjuster was for the rear suspension, but why did the service manual leave it out?

Your post made me curious, so I checked my manual. I have a 2006 and they have the Rear Suspension Spring Pre-Load in the manual on page 128 right before the Rear Suspension Rebound Damping and Compression Damping instructions.

Must've been a misprint or something?

They don't give much info other than how to do adjust it, so if you know how to make the adjustments, you're not missing much. The only thing of importance is not to turn it backwards and go directly from positon 1 to 10 (or vice-versa). Make sure you go in the right direction to get to 10 by going through all the settings 1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8-9-10 and do not keep going in the same direction around to 1 again.

I hope that made sense. In other words, adjustment travel should only be in the setting range of 1-10 and you should never turn past either end to jump to the other end.

Thanks for that reply. Does your manual mention anything about a lock nut that needs to be loosened first, or is it simply a matter of getting a spanner on the thing? I friend of mine simply said to put a spanner (provided in the tool kit) on the preload adjuster. I called the dealer, and the service person said it should not be adjusted. He mentioned that I'd have to loosen the lock nut, etc..

The 2006 manual doesn't mention anything about a lock nut.

Not sure what the dealer guy is smokin, maybe they just need work, but its super easy to change, and no lock nut. Just the spanner like you had said. I found it easier to adjust to harder w/the rear suspended, but going softer is silly easy.
