Default rear brake caliper mounting bolts problem

2006 1000rr.............There is a rubber plug that is part of the rear brake caliper mount. I can't figure out how to put it back in. Anyone know how...........and for that matter, what is it's purpose?

Default RE: rear brake caliper mounting bolts problem

this rubber piece does 2 things really , firstly it creates a suction if you like so when brake is used and caliper moves a little the suction created pulls caliper back in alignment , it also keeps out the grit and crap from road as if it got crapped up it could start to stick and cause pads to rub on discs ............when you replace it stick a small dab of lube on it .

its easier to put back if its warmed in soapy water first .....
