I would like to invest in a Radar Detector to mount on the windshield of my 06 1000RR. Anyone has any feedback on the subject? I saw this "Escort Solo S2 Cordless Radar and Laser Detector" on Amazon, what do you think? http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...&s=electronics, let me know...

Got good marks from "Radar Roy". I've attached his run down on all tested models. I'm going with the RX65. Interesting website, you should check it out. One day I may invest in a laser jammer, but for now, I spend most of my time in the twisties over Malibu and they use radar, not laser.

A good value radar detector in the low $200 range. Does not have the filtering the higher end Escorts or Beltronics units have. So you will have good range, but more false alerts.

Escort's concealed radar detector and what Radar Roy uses in his personal vehicle! Escort sells this unit for $1099.95 and rated as the #1 concealed detector.

Bel RX75
Beltronics top of the line concealed radar detector. This is almost a twin to the SR7 in performance

The Bel 975 R is Beltronics concealable unit. If consealability is an issue, this is an excellent choice for a great radar detector.

Downside, the laser sensors are designed to be mounted on the windshield. Laser is normally directed at the front license plate or headlamp. This will cause many lost laser hits!

any tips on mounting it & hooking it up to the bike?

 

regarding mounting, I would google for a handlebar type mount. They make them specifically for GPS and radar detectors. Going rate is around $60. Regarding connecting to the bike, you can hard wire the thing to your acc input on the fuse box, or, and I've done this before, go to Radioshack and buy a cigarette lighter socket and just use the power cord that comes with the detector. Afraid of getting A ticket.You have a couple of choices 1.out run him.Or get rid of the bike.Radar detectors is just a gadget that cost a lot of money.My experince they will not save you.At hyper speeds they are useless

 

Not what I'd call sage advice. #1, you are a fool to try and outrun the police. Be a man and take the ticket. Beats being arrested for evading, losing your license and insurance, and potentially injuring yourself or an innocent motorist or pedestrian.

I ride frequently on the PCH with a buddy who has the BMW K1200S (a beast of a bike). He has a Valentine V1 and it's saved us numerous times. Obviously, a detector won't ever be 100%, but if used wisely, and if you ride smart, you will avoid being popped.

 

Wirring seems very complicated, concidering that the example given is not on CBR 1000. + it might affect my battery & electrical system. Already bought Escort S2 battery operated radar, & will mount top of my wind shield, as soon as i receive it. Some even suggested keeping it in my pocket located above my knee, we'll see...

 

If you mount to your winshield, which is not the safest bet, make sure you use a "dummy" cord to secure it if it falls or you will see your investment bouncing down the road.
