i am about to buy a 2007 repsol 1000
i wanted to know how to tell if it was real or if it was a regular 1000 with plastic
the only thing that throws me off is the very bottom piece doesnt have all the decals some of them i have seen do it just says honda.
any input would be gratly appriciated

 

seems like a replica to me - polished frame and no stickers on the bottom. (i never owned a repsol) so it might be a specific VIN # but other then that it's just his word

yeah thanks for the help but can it b a real repsol without those decals at the bottom?
is that one piece or are they just factory stickers?

 

Thedecals are individually appliedand at least some them (if not all) areput onat the dealership. I don't know that a 2007 Repsol looks like straight from the crate.

The lower fairing area can get pretty warm, especially in hot weather. Maybe the stickers were damaged from heat and the owner pulled them off. Is there a VIN sequence for the Repsol scheme? That'd be the best way to tell.

 

The 2007 Repsol 1000RR did have a polished frame. It was the only 1000RR with a polished frame. Also, it doesn't come with the stickers on the bike, they come in an envelope that you are to apply yourself once you take it home from the dealership. There are quite a few Repsol replica's out there, but I can tell you two tips I learned that may differentiate the real from the fake.

1.) Before you buy it, get the VIN number and call a dealership and ask them over the phone if they will tell you if the bike is real or not. They might tell you, also there are several folks on this forum who work in a dealership who would be willing to help.

2.) The last 4 digits of the VIN. I have never once seen a real Repsol where the last 4 digits were higher than 1500. Mine is #0955. Now, just because it's less than 1500 doesn't mean its necessarily a Repsol, but if it's over 1500 that does mean it's a fake.

3.) Get a chance to look at the bike up close. If the fairings don't match up where there is a seam, then it is definitely a fake. A lot of the Hong Kong fairings are the same color and pattern, but they don't match up correctly from fairing to fairing so you sometmies see that it doesn't line up.

From the picture, although it's small, it looks like a very real Repsol to me. I'd like to see some bigger pictures.

Also, what's the asking price?

 

yep, as said about the decals. they are not applied by Honda. They are applied at the dealership, or given to the new owner. I asked for mine as son 15 year old kid was going to apply them... I wanted to do it myslef. But then I remembered back in 98 when I bought a smokin Joe's edition F3. The decals are not very durable. So decided not to apply them.

I do however still have them in an envelope. This guy should have them as well. Unless the dealership never gave them to the owner...

But like already said, the last 4 digits will not exceed 1500.

 

Polished frame?Maybe that'swhat Honda calls it but most of the frame has a fairly rough, cast look to it. The swingarm and a small section of the main frame have a smoother finish butI don't think manywould consider itto be polished aluminum.
