Dude...do your homework! I would first of all find a new dealer Not in your town because both of thedealers IN your town seem to be ran by some monkeys who do not know what they are talking about. Regardless of the measurement of the welds, the dealers in Columbus, OH are replacingthe fuel tanksno matter what.
Why would it be foolish to replace a part that is supposedly a perfectly good working part? Obviously this is not the case or Honda would not have issued the recall on the '06 and '07 CBR 1000RR models. Why would they have also issued a "STOP SALE" on all models effective 11-27-2007? I am also curious who gave you this sheet of paper with a guarantee for your bike? I know Honda did not because they would not do that for liability reasons. A leaking fuel tank on a hot motor is a very serious concern and I do not think that Honda's Corporate Lawyers would give that kind of guarantee. If they did, I am VERY surprised!!! I am not trying to be an a** and call you out, but trying to make you aware of what you could be dealing with. I would hate to hear about you riding down the road and your bike catching on fire. I would have it replaced regardless. That is your right as an owner.

Per the NTSB website:
Recalls for 2007 Honda
2007 HONDA CBR1000RR
NHTSA Campaign ID:
07V576000
Component:
FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINEELIVERY
Manufacturer:
HONDA (AMERICAN HONDA MOTOR CO.)
Manufacture Dates:
07/11/2006 - 03/05/2007
Potential Units Affected:
25422
Defect Description:
[blockquote]CERTAIN MOTORCYCLES HAVE AN IMPROPER WELDED VENT PIPE IN THE BOTTOM OF THE FUEL TANK. DUE TO VIBRATION THE IMPROPERLY WELDED TANKS MAY CRACK AND DRIP FUEL.[/blockquote]
Consequence:
[blockquote]FUEL LEAKAGE IN THE PRESENCE OF AN IGNITION SOURCE CAN RESULT IN A FIRE.[/blockquote]
Action to take:
[blockquote]DEALERS WILL INSPECT AND REPLACE THE FUEL TANK FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN DURING DECEMBER 2007. OWNERS MAY CONTACT HONDA AT 866-784-1870.[/blockquote]
Honda dealers MUST perform the recall per Honda guidelines. These guidelines have been approved through the NTSB, and I tend to agree since I would have NO civic or legal authority or precedent to force any Honda dealer to replace the part if it passed inspection.
If you go in demanding a new tank on a bike that clearly doesn't need one per the certified inspection, you may get someone in an understanding mood who will go a little farther and humor your wishes. They don't have to, however. What they have to do per the NTSB and HONDA guidelines is a) inspect the tank and the welds. IF it needs to be changed, fix it free of charge.
The STOP SALE is issued because noone can tell which bikes are effected until you perform the above recall procedure in a given VIN lot.
It is absurd to expect dealers to go beyond the requirements of the recall. That would be equivalent to me expecting them to change the headlight also even though it's working

RE: NOTICE: RECALL '06-'07 models
called late december to make an appointment at local stealership for the 2nd of January, they told me they had five tanks in. Dropped the bike off and recieved a call one hour and 23 minutes later stating the bike was ready for pick up and they replacedthe tank.
the two bikes they had all ready checked also needed replacing, mine being the third. My friend just took his 07' Repsol in and they did not replace it. He put up a stink and they showed him a bad tank and his tank and gave him some peace of mind.

RE: NOTICE: RECALL '06-'07 models
Im sure they are probably using a gauge to check the welds, to see which one is bad. The vendor they purchase the tanks from would most likely have 3 or 4 automated welders producing the tanks and if one was not calibrated correctly it could have caused the faulty welds that did get pass the inspector. that would explain why only 25,000 tanks are being recalled out of what 75,000 or 100,000 bikes produced.

The point of a forum is to come up with a different post for each thread. If you copy and paste from one thread to the next....it takes the fun out of it. I figured you for a more intelligent person than that. I guess not. You are going to be too easy!!!!! [sm=badidea.gif]

That makes sense RCR. My fuel tank fell under the VIN Lot #'s to be replaced. Even if it did not, I would still have it replaced for assurance. My local Honda Dealer is great! My family has done so much business with them, they take pretty good care of us. I heard Honda is not outsourcing as much as they used to. In the long run, it is cheaper to bring things in-house.
