I took my VIN #(build date 03/06)to the dealer yesterday and it was an effected bike, They said they had to test it first and if it needed they would replace it, They said no problem to just bring the tank in. Shouldn't they replace it anyways if there is a recall?
He said they had a tool to test it with andthat determined if it needed to be replaced or if it was ok.( i am assuming they are checking to see if the weld will hold or not?) not just wether or not it is broken alreadyor not??

I just got my recall notice and also checked with the list given in this thread. My numbers don't fall within the list given. Is this list a sure thing? Does that mean I don't have to waste my time driving an hour away and waiting 2 hours?
I hate my local honda shop. [:@]

Yeah, they use a tool to measure the depth of the weld. If the depth measures as prone to cracking, they replace. If it checks out, even if your bike falls in the VIN # range, you won't need it replaced and they won't put the new tank on.
I have 2 main shops in town. One told me they would need my bike for "at least a week even if it doesn't need the part, just to check it out. " BS. The next shop took my bike right in, checked the weld, and had it back to me by 10:30 the same morning.
Go figure. Some have posted that they want the replacement EVEN ifthe weldchecks out. This is foolish. Why replace a perfectly good working part on your bike? I've had the recall performed. I have a sheet of paper basically guaranteeing that this will not be an issue on my bike. That is good enough for me. Congrats to Honda for even doing this, as this wasn't a very highly known issue to my knowledge.
Cheers,

Dude...do your homework! I would first of all find a new dealer Not in your town because both of thedealers IN your town seem to be ran by some monkeys who do not know what they are talking about. Regardless of the measurement of the welds, the dealers in Columbus, OH are replacingthe fuel tanksno matter what.
Why would it be foolish to replace a part that is supposedly a perfectly good working part? Obviously this is not the case or Honda would not have issued the recall on the '06 and '07 CBR 1000RR models. Why would they have also issued a "STOP SALE" on all models effective 11-27-2007? I am also curious who gave you this sheet of paper with a guarantee for your bike? I know Honda did not because they would not do that for liability reasons. A leaking fuel tank on a hot motor is a very serious concern and I do not think that Honda's Corporate Lawyers would give that kind of guarantee. If they did, I am VERY surprised!!! I am not trying to be an a** and call you out, but trying to make you aware of what you could be dealing with. I would hate to hear about you riding down the road and your bike catching on fire. I would have it replaced regardless. That is your right as an owner.

I would not trust just any tech to to any sort of Non Destructive Testing with sophisticated equipment.
Also, not trying to be an @$$ but, can you scan the guarantee and post it?
That sounds very fishy.
