Need advise on buying a 1000RR

Sup fellas,
I ride a 05 600RR and im going to keep that bike for stricktly racing and am in the process of getting a loan from the bank so I can get a 1000RR.... I want to wait for the 09's to come out and see if they have any new color schemes, so heres a main question that i've got regarding the 08/09 liter bike....

Should I get the 08' since its basically the same, or hold out for the 09 due to recalls on the 08 dealing with oil consumption, etc.

If i do go with the 08, anybody got any $ figures that I should shoot for so I dont get ripped off? Thanks

I dont really know what to say. Sounds like you already made up your mind to wait for the new colors of 09, I have zero problem with the oil on my 08

price range for a new 1000 cc ANY bike is around 11.5k, out the door of a stealership its gonna be about 12-12.5k for shipping fees, title fees, licensing and all

From most dealerships, you can save around $1000 on a left over model. I think I would buy an 08, as you said, the 09's are going to be the same bike. they might have a few tweaks here and there, but nothing worth a grand in my eyes.

I haven't had any issues with oil consumption on my '08. I have about 2800 miles on it. I saw some pics of the '09 and I believe they added the repsol color scheme, but other than that the bike just came out earlier this year, so I don't think there are major changes to it. I am starting to see the "08 models go for $9999. That is not an out the door price but I am sure that you could probably get one at a reasonable price.

IMO Looks are not everything, I would rather have the first 1000 Ever to handle the same if not better then most 600's then a heavy slower bike based on looks.

and if you are buying your bike just on looks you are not buying a bike for the right reason at all

and, my 08 Fireblade looks kick ass IRL

RE: Need advise on buying a 1000RR

rojerlockless,
looks doesn't really concern me cause when the 08's came out i didn't like them at all, thought they looked hideous, but they're alright, i like the bike itself, not the plastic components (i.e. fairings).... i was just wandering if the 08's had the oil consumption problem corrected for the 09's.... but as you said you dont have any problems with your oil

He's right, his black 08 does look 5i)K. Too bad they only made a few. That being said, I'm not a big fan of the new side exhaust look. Also, no hydraulic clutch or steering dampener, wtf?

yes we have a HESD or something Hoda... hell I dont know the letters and what it stands for, lol but so far the dampener works so well you dont even notice it and with the "mass centralzation" that the bike is going for, the dampner is Under the air box touching coming up on the middle front left just by the top of the tank it's hard to see unless you turn the bars to the right.

the best dampner is one you dont notice untill you do IMO electronic ones are the way to go, a normal one will piss you off if you are going slow this one adjusts the second you move any speed any time so when you are rolling in a parkinglot, its off.

See the bump on the left side on the tank by the handle bars? Under that is where the dampener attached to the bars.

The bike also has one of the best slipper clutches I'v ever ridden on. and IMO I'll take a Cable clutch over a hydrolic one ANY DAY. after a bit of riding in town you can break your wrist using a hydrolic clutch all day long they are much harder to push in compared to a cable.

Why dont you take a look at the new 09 1000rr's before you make your decision.

http://www.motorcyclenews.com/

Has pictures of all the 09's and details like they now have optional ABS which is supposed to be fantastic.

Under the News tab.

My hydraulic clutch seems smoother than the old cable clutch to me. I guess I need to get on a 08 and try it out!

If i were you man and had a choice I would go with the latestI could but money wise i would just get an 07 you wont pay as much and you wont lose as much value off the lot

Starleak 09-13-2008 10:44 AM

RE: Need advise on buying a 1000RR

I kinda disagree on the looks thing. I bought an 07 just because the 08 just doesnt do it for me. I walk into my garage and love to look at it. I know the 08 performs better, is lighter, smaller, etc. But my 07 performs just fine. Just cause a newer better faster lighter bike comes out, doesn't make the older one any less.

Just my 2 cents. But I think looks are important when deciding on a bike.

Thats why I bought my 07.......looks did the deed.........the 08 has grown on me since but I still prefer the 07 looks..........

I'm just fashionably slow I guess

yeah, the 08 has since grown on me, but still like the 07 better

RE: Need advise on buying a 1000RR

Funny, I feel the same way. I have a friend that has an '08 in all black, and though it has grown on me too I still like the look of mine better. Thats not to say if I had the extra cash laying around for a new one I wouldn't go for it... I totally would, and the addition of ABS would seal the deal. Truth be told though I am perfectly happy with mine.

If you are serious about an '08 I would suggest looking here. I am not sure where you are in the country but this is in Tennessee. I am planning on getting mine here. http://www.southernhonda.com/new_veh...ModelYear=2008

They are selling '08s brand new for 9733.00.

RE: Need advise on buying a 1000RR

No problems whatsoever on my 08 CBR 1K... Depends on different variables finances, style and preference for your selection. From your message, it sounds like your aiming for color and if have the 12 + gs and if indeed thats the case then wait for the 09's. From what what I've seen they seem to be the same as the 08's. Your gonna 100% get a great deal on the older models heck maybe 2g's cheaper because you have to remember the stealerships wanna get rid of em' too. I've seen brand new 08 models for for $9,700 imagine 07's.

In any event, the issue of recalls is always gonna be an issue. Most brand new machines seem to have an issue down the road however what are the percentages....very low.

And, on a final note...think about this what makes anyone think there are NOT gonna be issues or recalls with the 09' CBR's...it just might be possible????
