I don't want to start a tire war but....

I have heard almost all of you love either the Pirellis or the Dunlops.

So far I haven't had too much trouble with my Bridgestone BT014 stock tires.

Has anyone tried the Continental tires and why or why not?

Which one tireworks best for the street withalmost notrack use and gives you the best mileage, and grip for your money?

If you go to the Bridgestone web site (Well really it is the Firestone web site) the 2004 CBR1000RR uses the BT014 with 5" of tread up front and 7" in the rear and the 2006 CBR1000RR uses the BT015with 4" of tread up front and 6" in the rear.

This means the 2006 will wear out their stock tires faster than the 2004 right?

It also mentioned all the stock tires for our bikes are specially made for the year and bike model as there are different tire numbers for say a Suzuki than our CBRs even though they may both use the 120/70-17 up front and a 190/50-17 out back.

My next set will be the Michelin pilot power 2CT 120/70-17 up front and a 190/55-17 out back.

i'd get the bt015 battlax.. they came on my bike stock and i love them. got 3500 miles of beating the hell out of the tire.. i have a dunlop 208 on it now and it brakes loose everytime i slip it up in 2nd even after i warm it up at night... i take it the bt014 is the older model

I have the Diablo Corsa on my 1000RR and I love them. They warm up quickly, they are very sticky and never let me down in corners, on accelerationor on braking. I have 5000km on the bike and I think I will be able to see 10000km with the rear tire... pretty impressive. However, it is a discontinued model, so when my rear tire is done, I will change both and get the Corsa III (3 zones, a little like the Michelin Pilot 2CT). I might go with the 190/55-17 in the back. I have never been a big fan of the Bridgestones, I didn't like the way they behaved on hard braking and they felt very slippery.

Michelin - pilot powers are awesome for dry and wet use. Really good feedback.

What are the benefits for going wider in the rear?

Besides more grip for launching?

None really. It'll make it handle like a truck and hard to turn into corners. Stick with the 190 rear on your 1000RR.
That said, I have the pirelli diablo corsas on the 07 1000RR and really like them. The only problem is because of the tread design that the front AND rear are getting cupped at only 2500 miles or so. I'm going to swap them out before the next track day for sure. I can feel the cupped tires when walking it on the smooth garage floor....bump bump bump bump....can even see it too.
I've had Dunlop 207's, 208's, qualifiers and the pirelli diablo and I can't tell much of a difference. This time around, within the next few weeks, I'm going to try the Michelin Pilot Powers to see how they do.

A 190/55-17 is taller , not wider.
Makes the turn in quicker.
