Default How did your 08-09 1000rr sound when you brought it home?

I just bought a 08 1000rr and I feel like it sounds a little strange. Granted Ive never owed a liter bike before (previous bike was a 02 F4i) but it sounds different than I expected.

Im not really sure how to describe sound but Ill try. The bike is stock and the exaust has a loaping sound. Kind of like a old muscle car that has a large cam in it. I wanna say it has sort of a ticking noise but not a bad ticking noise like there is a problem or anything. I know that probably doesnt make much sense Im just not really sure how to describe it.

Basically, what did you guys think of the sound when you first purchased your 08-09 1000rr? Im not overly impressed with the sound so far. I guess I just expected something different.

Did the sound of your bike change as you broke it in?

i thought mine was really quite when i brought it home.so i did the flapper mod to it and it sounded a lot better. that's when you disconnect the servo motor under the subframe. do a search on it there's a thread on it. or you can find it on youtube.

Mine has 15k on it now. When I got it new 9mos ago it did seem odd. Ran a little odd like you descibed. I has done the flapper mods and then a two bro slip on. It has always ran fine although the tick you described I have as well and still have it. no issues yet and I push it pretty hard.

07 here and it has the big cam, muscle car sound that you're talking about. I didnt think something was wrong though, I just like it!!!
The sound you describe sounds normal to me....

WRT the ticking noise...I think 1Ks have a little bit of a rattle quality about them. Mine does, others I've been around have (multi-years), and I've heard it on videos seeon on YouTube etc. I can't imagine it being a problem.

It's nowhere near the level as the F4i cam tensioner rattle.

2007 1000RR here and at idle, it sounds like one of those bi-planes in the sky with a flag trailing it.

I also did the flapper mod and there's more intake sound but that's it. With the flapper mod, take off from standstill is much better and shifting is improved a little -- I think because the RPMs don't feel like they need to drop as quickly.

Yea. The 2007 1000RR is pretty quiet.
