exhaust questions
Greetings guys,
Ok. on my last bike, a 954 there was a "butterfly" valve thingy about 1/2 of the way back from the heads. Anyone know what i am talking about? there was also a flapper thingy in the airbox....
well as soon as i bought the bike, on the advice of friends, i removed them both. this absolutly destroyed my low end.
then i went ahead and got a yoshi full system, pc3, k&N and 520set up. but i never got my low end back. it just was not the same since i did that. i did dyno at 150.2 and 67 torque (thats pretty good no?)
so here is the question.
i already did the intake air flapper mod for my new 06. didnt notice any big difference, maybe a little bit smother on 1.5-3k rpm's.
if i remove the "butterfly" thingy will i get a performance gain? or will i be disapointed? will i then have to get a pc3? keep in mind that i am not gonna get a pipe or pc3 for a long while....blew my whole load on the bike...lol
thanks guys,
james

RE: exhaust questions
There are no big HP gains to be had by removing the Exhaust valve from the stock can. Some, but not much.
Saying that, it won't hurt anything. No big dips in HP / Tq etc.
This guy planned on getting a S/O anyways, so while on the dyno they drilled out the baffles of the stock can and made some nice HP gains.

You 954 may have lost some bottom end *after* fitting the full system as that is a commen trade off for the few extra HP you gain up top.
Most of the good full systems availible for the 1000RR (Arata, Sato, Turmi etc) won't loose HP anywhere Vs. Stock.

RE: exhaust questions
for power i would go arata or akra myself.. i have used them on all my bikes and they have always made good power. i had a yosh on my busa and switched to an akrapovic and picked up 6hp.. since them i have been sold.. yosh sounds pretty good but isnt the best for power..
