RE: cycle news 1k shootout....some results.....
^ Let me turn your prod back towards you for a moment if i may, and let me just say i am not here tryin to start anything. I just happened to read an old 02 shootout of the big 4 and it made me realize that this year with the 1k they kinda went back to what they did with the 954 from the 929. Lighten it up a bunch, add a little more power than the previous, gear it great, and make it really easy to ride.
Anyhow back to the prodding I think you have to consider the 54 a liter bike, its certainly no 750, and i would be willing to bet if you added the needed displacement to make it 999cc's it would still be lighter by a hair. Hell just for comparison, in 02 the 954 was lighter than the gsxr 600, wow right
In your defense that poll is rather surprising to me, i dont know if the 08 is growing on people or what, but i am surprised at the results.
On a final note i am still not convinced on the whole dyno thing yet, and i am still convinced that in a 1/4 mile race it would be down to the rider, i think they are that close. I would however not want to run an 08 from say 80-160, that would be a slaughter withthe new aero's and gearing.

See this really gets me. All the things Ihear 08 cbr 1000. Hell half the people on this forum put so much hype behind the 08 cbr 1000. Even before they knew the hp numbers. Ok Ok after seeing this not only does the 06 cbr 1000 looks better its lighter and has more power stock. Let that go for all the new bike take all them numbers compare it to last years see what you get. Its a sells pitch.

RE: cycle news 1k shootout....some results.....
Arent those trap speeds a little low? At elevation or something? I would assume those liter bikes would clip the 140 mark or even 145ish?? Hell I would expect with a competent rider and 150+ whp that they would be clicking of high 9's at low-mid 140s!! Guess rider/stock tires/weather/etc?? bad 60ft's or something

My points were the bolded quotes. I don't doubt that the 954 is lighter than the '08. No point for you!
2nd point hp and tq, i had no problems dynoing 154hp and 78lbs or tq with a slip on and filter
At the crank maybe. LOL '06 1000RR'sareputting down ~160 rwhp with full exhaust, filters, PCIII's, and custom maps.
3rd point 1/4 mile time, again its cataloged all over on tests and reviews, need links?
Yes. Please provide the links. I don't believe it.
4th point ugly, personal preference, although i know they redid the 08 1k nose in the wind tunnel and its a great design to be fast. But i put up a poll for the hell of it, we shall see what the people think
Most of the people on this site are concerned first and foremostwith appearance so that poll really isn't going to give me any info I don't already have. Ask a track hack or a racer which bike they'd rather campaign a 954, a '04-'07 1000RR, or an '08 1000RR.
