cooling issues.. how hot is TOO HOTT
I just bought a 08 1krr that has been rekd and sat up for a year.. has 5500 miles on it.. it cranks and runs very very smoothly but I think I am having some cooling issues.. About what temp. should it be idling at? When do the fans kick on, and how hott is TOO hot? any help would be very much appriciated. thanx

My bike will get up over 220 before the fan kicks on. Getting over 215 is is good because that is the boiling point of water.
These engines are aluminum and both heat up AND dissapate heat very quickly. Your temp will fluctuate more than you would think based on the outside variables. Mine will run anywhere from 140-190 depending on the day out, and when I stop will run up into the 220/230's very quickly.

My fans kick in at 107deg C and when it's a hot day it will idle at that temp or sometimes sit around 100. Never seen it lower that 78 even on cool nights and my research shows they tend to run hot by design.
The engine check light is programmed to come on at 120deg C as a warning to let it cool down. I'd say anything below that is normal. However since it's sat for so long, it would be a good idea to do a full fluids flush to make sure it's all clean

Two things need to be done... WHILE THE BIKE IS COLD
1) Take the radiator cap off and fill it with coolant to the brim. I'm not talking about the overflow bottle!!! Loosen the 6mm bolt on the top of the water pump to bleed the air out of the pump. The bleed bolt has a copper sealing washer behind it. Once water starts leaking out tighten it back up... the air is now out of the pump.
2) Start the bike with the rad cap still off, keep filling until you can't fill anymore. Pop the cap back on and you'll be cool!! Let us know how it goes!

i have a 07 fireblade and i live in the gulf, in summer time it reaches upto 107c while am stuck in the traffic light or in the city, while iam driving on the high way its like 82c
during winter time its like 100 c in traffic and 77 while am driving on the high way so if ur bike tem is like 100 while ur driving on the high way then i guess u have a problem while its going up while you are stuck in the traffic its normal the fan will work at 103c any way my advice is to change the fluids in ur bike go to the honda dealer and change the radiator water
