Cool Clutch problems...need advice please!!

I recently took my 2012 1000rr for it's first ride. I realized immediatly (when the bike redlined in 1st gear at 20mph) that something was wrong. It feels like the clutch is slipping through all the gears. The bike topped out in 6th gear at 67 mph. I checked the clutch cable and it was super tight, so I loosened the adjustment all the way and went back out, the bike topped out this time at 71mph. I checked the cable again after I loosened it up and the cable was just as tight when I adjusted it the first time, only I have no more thread left to adjust it. Could this be a bad cable or is the clutch shot on it completely??

You adjusting down on the side of the bike, the from case end of the cable yes? Feels like its retightening then yea? Could be something stuck inside the basket causing it to not fully disengage or something or other? Get a screwdriver and place it on the clutch cover see what you hear. Rev it up, engage and disengage the clutch. If you have no more slack and you cannot loosen it anymore to check may as well just go ahead and pull the cover and take a looksee. Hard to say what it exactly is and for just a few bolts to find out its def. worth it. Def. dont wanna be riding it around like that, especially a bike not very old. Hate to do more damage than its already suffered.

If it is a brand new bike and still under warranty take it to the dealer and let them deal with it. Unless it's a simple adjustment you don't want to mess with something that might break and then the warranty won't cover the repair.

What RJ said, times 10^9.

No need for you to be bodging something together when the factory-trained pros can be hitting Honda for billable hours.
