Clunky Shifting

Clunky Shifting
As I mentioned in a previous post, I have noticed a slip in shifting performance on my 2005 1000RR. The 2-3, 3-4, 4-5, and 5-6 shifts were smooth when new and now, at 4000 miles, the shifts are no longer smooth but feel like the clutch is not dissengaged completely, but it is. Took it to the dealer (Cal Coast) and the service tech said he couldn't find anything wrong with it when he rode it. The shop called the Honda service rep and he said that as bikes break in, the effort of shifting can change. I wouldn't think that it should get more difficult. Basically, until it no longer shifts, they won't look into it. Anyone else experience shift problems?
The tech also suggested I change the oil to Honda HP4 (synthetic blend) w/o Molybdenum, as he feels the shifting may improve. Anyone agree with that?

well in my experience with my bike, usually the higher in the rpm range you are(4000+ rpms) the smooth the shift is for me. i know between 2000 and 4000 usually the shift isnt always as smooth but my dad says that its just the gears disengaging and engage again. this is because at higher RPMs the gears catch alot easier then at low RPMs. o by the way my dads been a motorcycle tech for over 20 years and has worked on jap, european, and harleys

Have you had it serviced? 4k service interval manual states that they don`t change the oil n filter, so if you had the Honda dealer service it they may not of changed the oil n filter, I changed my oil n filter at the 4K service and havn`t noticed any problems with changing. I`d try changin the oil n filter as its cheap and see how that goes it should improve the changes.

I think that is a Honda thing because I have a 00' 929 that does the same thing and I looked into it to find out the clutch was recalled on the 929 that year. My 1k doesn't do it. I just think Honda has not yet perfected the clutch thing for all the bikes yet.

Where did you find out about the recall? I'm thinking that Honda will wait until the clutch breaks before they'll repair it, and for that reason, the extended warranty may be a good idea. Anyone else purchased the HOnda extended warranty? It's about $340-370
